Don't ever get married, Bobby.
Why wouldn't I?
Why would you get married, Bobby?

For company.

No, I would not care for a cigarette.

Sunday

It's a scary feeling when you wake up at 11 am and have a panic attack because you think it's Monday and you're already 3 hours late for work. But a comforting feeling when you realize it's Sunday and you can go back to sleep and nurse your hangover some more. Here's a picture of what gabbers and I have been up to today. Very productive stuff.

Paperbacks

I think paperbacks should only have text printed on the right hand page so the cover can be permanently turned under. Damn the extra width of the book and paper waste.

So
So I'm at the point where the best I can hope for next Tuesday is a non-filibuster proof Senate and a slight non-majority in the House. Ain't conceding defeat for the big one, yet, but it's looking like we're gonna have at least 2 long years of higher taxes, higher spending, more entitlements, and a re-distribution of wealth like this country has never before seen -- and perhaps the world hasn't seen since the scourge of Socialism/Communism/Collectivism invaded much of the "eastern" world.

That shit scares me.

My only saving grace is the hope of a referendum in two years similar to 1994 to get the fuckers who are going to drive this country down the tubes at the (perceived) benefit of those folks who do not pay anything into the system and who want the gubmint to do everything for them out of office. Here in Houston we have dealt with those type of fuckers in our fair city the last 3+ years since Katrina hit. "ohhhh, a hurricane hit my house (that the gubmint paid for), I should get all my expenses paid while I sit on my ass and don't try to look for work or better myself! Oh poor pitiful me!!" GET OFF YOUR ASS AND CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY AND DO NOT EXPECT A GUBMINT HANDOUT. I don't see the residents of Galveston and Bolivar and Beaumont and South-Eastern Harris county getting shit from anyone. No, they are struggling and fighting and helping themselves. And are going to be back on their feet soon. They will not be in gubmint paid apartments 3 fucking years after the storm hit.

I can't shake the feeling that a lot of Obama voters are expecting just that -- the gubmint is gonna take care of all their needs -- the Messiah is gonna bring HOPE and CHANGE! And the gubmint is gonna get them out of their self-imposed depths. BULLSHIT!! That's not what this country is about -- pick yourself up, get a skill that has relevancy in this time, get a job, and take care of your own shit. This country was built on a weak federal government that was really only in place for national defense and to regulate interstate commerce. We are way past that point (by the fault of both of our current political parties (don't get me started on the utter stupidity of only two choices/parties)), but the fundamental Constitutional ideals still exist in this country, and it would be nice to have someone who would take charge and stop the bullshit. We almost had that person in Dr. Paul (but he had his multitude of problems, too), and McCain is as close (yes, in my mind) as is available this year. Damn, we need a Jefferson or Adams or Hamilton or Jay to stand up for our times, and those folks are out there, but they're too damn smart to get involved with the bullshit of American government at this time.

I'd actually be almost OK with an Obama presidency (spit) if we had some division in the legislative body to put a halt to or at least a discerning eye on the crap he's gonna push through.

I'm afraid of where this country will be in 4 years. I'm afraid that we're on our way to irrelevancy on the world stage ala GB. I'm afraid we are at a crossroads and we are not being offered a choice that will lead us on the right path (though I do believe John gets us closer, but not quite there).

I will be proudly casting my vote for John McCain and Senator John Cornyn on Friday (early voting rocks, by the way), but I'm afraid one of those votes will not help, and while I'm confident he'll be back, I know Cornyn doesn't have the balls to stand up and fight the tide that this country is headed towards.

I'm worried about the way our country is headed and I'm afraid a corps of morons who are brainwashed by a pretty face and a pretty voice is going to elect an unsuitable leader. I've done the best I could to get my voice heard, and get those whose voices need to be heard by a larger audience out there, but I don't think it's enough.
